However, a few things will be overlooked if you are just starting to explore the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. The story is complicated and layered with context from the best Gundam films, making it difficult to follow. We are here to help you if you're interested in diving into this amazing universe, and thankfully it has become somewhat easier.Due to its location in the Universal Century setting there are many movies, shows and OVAs that take place between the first show in Hathaway's franchise (the year 0009) and the year Hathaway takes places (the year 0105). These OVAs, while providing more context, don't necessarily need to be watched if you just want to get a taste for the franchise. To be the most familiar with Hathaway's world, you should at least watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam, its immediate sequels Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam ZZ and the aforementioned movie Chars Counterattack. You might get sick of the giant robots if you try to squeeze them all in within a few weeks. Hathaway will be there later!
