Sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson Has Been Disqualified From The 100-Meter Race At The Olympics After Testing Positive For Cannabis

ShaCarri Richardson, a US sprinter, has spoken out after she was informed that ShaCarri had tested positive for marijuana. She was given a one month ban and will not be able to run the 100-meter race at Tokyo Olympics.The 21-year old confirmed her positive test for THC on NBC's Today. She did this after she heard that her mother had passed away.She said to NBC that she was told the news about her mother's death by a reporter. This sent her into panic amid the pressure to perform on the track.I will take responsibility for what I did. Richardson said that I am aware of what I did and what I should do. He also stated that Richardson was still responsible for the decision.BuzzFeed News was informed by the US Anti-Doping Agency that Richardson was given a one-month ban.Although the rules are clear, this is heartbreaking. We hope that her acceptance of responsibility will set an example for others, and show us all that we can overcome regrettable decisions, even if they have costly consequences, stated Travis T. Tygart, USADA CEO.In a statement, the USADA stated that Richardson's positive result in the 100-meter women's race at the Olympic Trials earlier this month invalidated her win. She will therefore not run that race in the Olympic Games in Tokyo.Richardson could still be selected for the 4x100 relay team.
