Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory (Screenshots). Graphic : Karl GustafsonThe 1970s were a turbulent time in movie-making. Michael Bollner, Augustus Gloop's character, revealed to Polygon that the beautiful, rolling chocolate river was not cocoa-infused. However, this doesn't negate the fact that there is some very strange shit happening at Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.AdvertisementThis weirdness has caused a lot of questions to be raised over the 50-year history of the movie. With the 4K Ultra HD release this week, Wonkas stars Peter Charlie Ostroff and Michael Augustus Gloop Bollner, Paris Mike Teevee Themmens and Dawn Veruca Salt Cole, we had the opportunity to speak with them. For example, where did Charlie's grandparents go to the toilet? A pensive Ostroff suggested that Charlie might have been in charge of the bedpan. Cole replied, "That's always troubled" when Cole was asked about Charlie's grandparents leaving the factory. We were wondering, "Hm." especially in the current world we live in. Cole says that Wonka said that the Oompa Loompas were being eaten by Hornswogglers, Vermicious Knids, and other animals. He probably did them a favor. Cole also points out that the Oompa Loompas were addicted to chocolate and that Wonka might have used that weakness to keep them in his factory. Cole says, Although it isn't often mentioned, I do know that they had a chocolate addiction that [Wonka] fed.
