This farm and villa was built in 1820 for Thomson Francis Mason and Elizabeth Betsey Clapham Price as their second home.Mason, a respected Virginia lawyer, was elected Mayor of Alexandria in the late 1820s. He also served as the key figure behind The Middle Turnpike. His company constructed it after Mason approved the crucial infrastructure project. Mason was active in politics up to his death in 1838.Betsey Mason lived 35 more years than her husband and was well-known as a dynamic figure who played an important role in the preservation George Washington's Mount Vernon home.Historic Huntley was used as a summer retreat and a grain farm. It also served as an encampment for Civil War troops. Finally, it became a successful dairy farm that the Harrison family ran in the early 20th century.The Fairfax County Park Authority purchased the property in 1989. It was then used for special events only until 2012 when it was given a major renovation. You can now tour the building and property.
