American Airlines marks 30 years serving Heathrow

Today, American Airlines celebrates 30 years of transatlantic flight operations from Heathrow (July 1)This carrier also operated Gatwick between 1982 and 2008. It will fly up to ten daily flights from Heathrow to nine US cities this summer, including Boston (Chicago), Los Angeles (Los Angeles), New York (Seattle), and Los Angeles (Seattle).When it returns to full Heathrow, the airline will be flying up to 23 daily flights from London to 11 US hubs.American has more than 736 employees in the UK, with 545 at London's airport.As they mark 30 years of service, London's 25-member team will be recognized.A Boeing 767 was the first plane to fly passengers from New York JFK to Heathrow on July 1, 1991.Threety years later, and despite the worst year for the aviation industry ever due to the coronavirus in 2004, London Heathrow remains America's largest European hub.British Airways, a transatlantic business partner, also calls Heathrow home.Rhett Workman, managing director of European and Asia Pacific Operations, stated: American has a proud past at London Heathrow serving customers across the Atlantic for over 30 years.The flights between London Heathrow and the United States are vital business, leisure, and cargo routes.We have moved essential goods, including food products, between the UK to the US during the pandemic.We are looking forward to rebuilding our transatlantic network, and welcoming back customers who are ready to travel.
