Representative image: Air India aircraftDIAL, the airport operator, said that domestic passengers have increased more than threefold at Delhi International Airport between June-end and mid-May.According to a statement, the majority of June's travelers were in the "visiting friends and family" category (48%), followed by "vacation", (25%), and "business travellers" (19%).The DIAL reported that 44% of June 2019's flyers were vacationers and 41% were "visiting friends and family".According to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), "Delhi airport has seen over three times the increase in domestic passengers from approximately 18,000 per hour in May 2021, to more than 62,000 per hour at the end June 2021."It also noted that the number of international travelers grew from approximately 4,500 per hour in May to almost 7,500 per hour in June-end.The second wave of coronavirus pandemic in India has had a devastating effect on India's aviation sector. Although it is now receding, it was still in full force in April-May.The airlines can only operate 50 percent of their pre-Covid domestic flights.
