Trump had to cancel a July 4 weekend rally at an Alabama military memorial park after the venue backed out

Getty Images via Anadolu AgencyTrump cancelled a rally in Mobile after the venue lost its permit.Before Trump could attend, the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park approved it.Park officials stated that Trump's presence would be a violation of venue rules, which require events to be nonpartisan.Check out more stories from Insider's business page.After being denied a permit, former President Donald Trump cancelled plans for a July 4th weekend rally in Mobile.Local officials were concerned that the event might be hijacked to support partisan political causes.Trump was the keynote speaker at Saturday’s Republican Party event at USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.Officials at the park said that they wouldn't allow the event to go ahead in a letter obtained by NBC 15 News.After learning that the event would be more than a patriotic Independence Day celebration, they decided to make it a political event.In a letter, Bill Tunnell, chairman of the park commission, wrote that "After the request had been made, there was contact with Republican Party, they contacted them and then it became evident that it was going be a partisanpolitical event rather than just a patriotic occasion planned for that evening."The USS Alabama is a warship that participated in naval operations during World War II. It is housed in the park. Since 2012, when Rick Santorum (former GOP Senator) held a rally at the park, authorities have prohibited political events from the area.Al.com was told by Steve Marshall, Alabama Attorney General, that park officials had sought his opinion and that he advised them to avoid restricting speech based upon the "identity" of the speaker.The Alabama GOP stated that Trump was looking forward to speaking at the event, and was disappointed that it wasn't happening.Later, a Trump aide contacted NBC 15 to inform them that the Mobile rally had been delayed to avoid two large events being held in such a short time.Continue the storyThe former president plans to visit Alabama again in the future."The response to our rally, which was simultaneously planned in Sarasota, has blown away all our projections so we decided some weeks back that our Mobile rally would be held in the summer or early autumn rather than trying to stage two large rallies on back-to-back days," an aide stated in a statement.Since his departure from the White House in January, Trump has stirred rumors about a bid for power.Although he was barred from social media platforms for his alleged incitement to the January 6 Capitol Riot, he continues to baselessly claim that last year's election was stolen by mass fraud.He was at his first rally since he left office on Saturday, where he attacked critics and foes in a familiar fashion.Business Insider has the original article.
