Britney Spears' Father Is Shifting The Blame In New Court Filings After The Singer's Explosive Testimony

He requested that the court investigate her claims last week and asked for a judge's order to end her conservatorship.Britney Spears' father, Britney, along with a host of lawyers, has legally controlled Britney's life and money for 13 years. He was placed under court-mandated conservatorship. Britney shared shocking revelations about how she was treated under this arrangement.During the virtual appearance, Spears stated that she just wanted her life back.Samuel Ingham, Spears' court-appointed lawyer, filed a petition in March asking Jodi Montgomery to permanently take over the role of conservator. Spears' father asked if that was his daughter's wish. Spears' temporary conservator was named to be Montgomery in September 2019, when her father died from complications with his health.His attorney stated that it was Montgomery and not Jamie who has made "such decisions regarding Ms. Spears' personal care and medical treatment.""Mr. Spears was therefore deeply saddened by the stories of his daughters' suffering and difficulties. He believes that an investigation must be conducted.Vivian L. Thoreen, his attorney, wrote that these claims were "substantially true." He also stated that he was unable to listen and address the concerns of his daughter directly due to his lack of communication with her.Ingham did not sign the petition Ingham filed. BuzzFeed News reached Ingham for comment but she did not respond immediately.The comments made by the pop star in court were months after the New York Times' Framing Britney Stars documentary was released. This prompted a reexamination on how she was treated before and after her public collapse. In the documentary, it was also questioning how her father continued to control her financial and physical health after her successful return to music. The Times reported the day before her appearance that she had been pushing to end the conservatorship for many years. She told the court in May 2019, that she felt forced to perform and that she needed to be admitted to a mental facility.Spears' earlier statement to the court on Tuesday was not addressed in the documents her father filed. Nor did the Times reporting. Thoreen stated that Spears' father was her conservator and did all he could to support her well-being and personal decisions, including marriage.Lauriann Wright, an attorney representing Montgomery, released a statement Wednesday saying that the conservator had been "a tireless advocate for Britney" and that she and her medical team have "one primary goal to aid and encourage Britney on her path to not needing a conservatorship."Wright stated that Spears' rights to marry and have children is not affected under the conservatorship. Montgomery will also be available to assist the pop star if she needs it. Wright said that Montgomery is not the conservator for the estate and therefore she must approve any expenditures.Wright stated that "Practically speaking, because everything costs money and no expenditures can be made without Mr. Spears approval."She stated that Montgomery had advocated for Britney in any spending recommendations made by Spears and her medical team, but that not all expenditures have been approved.Wright stated that Britney has made meaningful progress in her health and that Ms. Montgomery is Britney's advocate and protector. She is responsible for honoring Britney's wishes and looking out for her best interests during Britney's conservatorship. Wright added that it was her personal wish that Britney make continued positive strides so that she can end her conservatorship.According to court records online, no petition has been filed to end conservatorship.
