According to sources familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the defendants would face tax-related charges.Jennifer Weisselberg is a cooperating witness to the DA and parallel investigation from the New York State Attorney General's Office. She divorced Allen Weisselberg's child, Barry in 2018. She has given copious documentation about the Trump Organization she received through her divorce and sat down for interviews with prosecutors.Duncan Levin, Jennifer Weisselberg’s attorney, said to Insider that she would assist prosecutors in whatever way needed.Levin stated that she will continue to cooperate with investigators in any way possible, even if necessary. "Jenn Weisselberg is cooperating and is available to answer any questions investigators might have."As part of their investigation, the prosecution is looking into several issues. They are investigating whether Trump Organization executives were given perks such as cars and apartments without paying taxes; whether the company misrepresented real estate values to avoid paying high taxes and receiving favorable loan and insurance rates; or whether it violated laws by making a hush money payment to Stormy Daniels in 2016. To determine which charges should be brought, the special grand jury was formed by the prosecution.Levin was previously the head of the Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. asset forfeiture unit. Jennifer Weisselberg provided evidence to support criminal tax charges. He said, "We are very pleased to hear that the DA's Office is considering bringing criminal cases." "We have been working with them since late last year. We have provided investigators with a mountain evidence not only about fringe benefits but also about other possible tax issues."Matthew Calamari and former President Donald Trump's lawyers, who are being investigated by the FBI, stated that they do not expect to see any charges against their clients this week.Legal experts warn that Trump could still be at risk. Prosecutors tried to force Allen Weisselberg to cooperate in the investigation. He may still do this even though he has been charged. Prosecutors would have a better view of the financial arrangements of Trump Organization and Trump's personal involvement in them if he cooperated.
