Mathieu Van der Poel narrowly retained his yellow jersey.Pogacar, 22 years old, completed the 27.2km course in 32 mins. This is 19 seconds faster than Stefan Kung who was second that day.This stunning ride by the Slovenian saw him gain more time than his rivals, and nearly take the overall race lead.Van der Poel, however, made a determined effort to finish fifth at Laval and is now eight seconds faster than Pogacar."It was an amazing day for me, luckily there were perfect conditions," Pogacar said. However, he has an impressive lead over his main competitors.Jumbo-Visma’s Roglic is in a lot of pain after being involved in several crashes over the first few days. He was able to ride well and finish seventh on this stage.He is now 10th overall, but is already 1 to 48 behind his pre-race favorite.Geraint Thomas, the 2018 Ineos Grenadiers winner, suffered a dislocated shoulder during a stage three crash. He finished 16th with a time of 33:18.The Welshman is now 12th overall and 1:54 behind on Pogacar. Richard Carapaz had to limit his losses as the Ecuadorian fell from third to ninth overall, 10 second ahead of Thomas.Thomas said that he went out conservatively.
