Los Angeles Lakers finalizing deal to hire David Fizdale as assistant, sources say

Sources tell ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that the Los Angeles Lakers have reached a deal to hire David Fizdale, former head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies and New York Knicks. Fizdale, who was a long-time assistant to Erik Spoelstra's Miami Heat coach LeBron James, will now join Frank Vogel’s staff with Lakers. Fizdale's two tenures as a head coach lasted less than two years each time. New York fired Fizdale after just 22 games of the 2019-20 season. He was 21-83 as Knicks coach. He was 50-51 with Memphis -- leading the Grizzlies into the playoffs in his debut season. This came after a 2017-18 season that saw the team go 7-12.
