Facebook is launching "Bulletin", its subscription newsletter, to compete with Substack.On June 29, the company revealed the new product, which allows writers to publish paid and free newsletters. These newsletters can be posted online and sent to subscribers. The company also stated that these newsletters can be shared on Facebook.Facebook claims that writers will be able to keep all subscription revenue during these partnerships and can take their subscriber lists as well as their content with them.It also noted that Facebook Pay will handle payments, which will allow subscribers to pay using a credit card or debit card as well as through PayPal.Facebook announced that writers will be able to access analytics tools that will allow them to understand their audience and grow it over time.Social media giant, Twitter, also stated that writers will have their own website, which they can customize with their name, logo, and color palette.This new service was launched by Facebook shortly after Live Audio rooms were launched on top Android phones.CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the platform is focused on "empowering independent writers, helping these writers reach new audiences, and powering their businesses" during a live audio call.He said Bulletin would help Facebook achieve its mission of "supporting eventually millions" of creative workers.Fidji SIMO, the head of Facebook's app, stated in a Facebook post that Bulletin would be free for creators up to 2023. She said that creators will have more opportunities to connect with their audience through the platform, such as the ability create Facebook groups for free or subscribers-only.The Verge reported that Facebook had signed up Malcolm Gladwell and Tan France to cover topics such as finance, medicine, and sports.
