Ibom Airs will fly two new Airbus A220 aircraft on Wednesday, 30 June 2021. They will bring much-needed capacity, increased safety, and greater reliability to the domestic aviation market. The Airlines decided to accelerate its fleet development plan to meet a surge of passenger numbers. This increased capacity meant that the airline had to lease two new aircraft. The airline now has the capacity it needs to serve its rapidly growing clientele with the arrival of both leased aircraft.Ibom Airs passengers traveling on the Lagos-Abuja route now have 3 daily flights in comfort with the A220. The A220 will serve both the Uyo- Lagos and Uyo-Abuja routes. In addition, the airline fleet of 5 CRJ900s will fill in any gaps, providing sufficient capacity for all other routes.According to Mr. George Uriesi (Airlines COO), we are delighted to introduce the Airbus A220 to Nigeria's domestic market. It is one of the most advanced passenger planes in the world. Our fleet of Bombardier CRJ900s powered the airline through its initial phase. However, we needed to change our business strategy to accelerate our transition to larger aircraft. This capacity problem will be addressed with the A220.Ibom Air is currently negotiating with Airbus to purchase a fleet A220s that will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2022. As a temporary measure, the carrier decided to wet-lease two new aircraft from Egypt as an emergency solution.
