Millennial Farmer: Farming for the future

The Johnson family has been cultivating the Minnesota rich soil for more than 150 years. Zach Johnson's great-great, great-grandparents immigrated from Sweden to the United States in 1868. They established the family farm using the U.S. Homestead Act. Zach joined the family business after just a few minor changes, nearly a decade later.Zach was aware that he would need to adapt in order to succeed in a business completely different from the one he ancestors had.Zach says that my great-grandpa moved from farming with horses, oxen, and one-bottom ploughs to operating air-conditioned tractor with radios. These air-conditioned tractor don't come cheap. He says that one of the biggest problems facing family farms is that everything has become so expensive. This can make it very difficult to pass those farms on to the next generation.
