BarnesBrian Cashman, general manager of the New York Yankees, gave a blunt assessment to his team in a Tuesday chat with reporters.Cashman stated, "I understand they want to get on the right track urgently, but I also know we suckright now, as bad and as possible,""Trying to get out of this is the effort. But until we get on our feet and play high again, it's going to look terrible. It stinks to the highest heavens. We need to have that right now."I have to call it as I see it: It is pretty bad right now."After a three-game road sweep by the Boston Red Sox, and a 5-3 home loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday, the 40-38 Yankees have now lost four consecutive games. The Yanks are currently at.234 in runs scored as a team, with the American League's second-fewest runs. The Yanks' pitching has been a major factor in the team's above-average win/loss record. The bullpen shines all season.Corey Kluber is one of the Yankees' top hurlers and is currently on the 60-day disabled list due to right shoulder strain. Gerrit Cole, the staff ace, has not been doing well lately. He went 2-2 in June with a 4.65 ERA.Another problem for the Yanks is that they might not have enough time to make things right this year. They are currently ahead of eight teams in the AL top-heavy standings and six games behind the Oakland Athletics to win the second wildcard. There could be changes for the Yankees but it doesn't seem like there are any.Cashman stated that "This isn't an Aaron Boone issue and this isn't a problem with the coaching staff." They're doing the right thing, but they're not getting what they want. They have my support. We are all in this together."Before hosting the New York Mets in the Subway Series, the Yankees will play two more games against the Angels.
