Nick Didlick/Associated PressConnor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers' star hockey player, won Tuesday's Hart Trophy as NHL MVP. He beat Auston Matthews and Nathan MacKinnon for the award. After scoring 105 points in 56 games, McDavid won the award for fourth year in a row. He had previously won the Hart Trophy in 2006 with 108 points (41 goals and 67 assists) in 82 matches. McDavid scored 21 more points than Leon Draisaitl, his teammate. After Draisaitl's 2019-20 win, it's the second consecutive year that an Oilers player has won the honour. It's the 12th Hart Trophy that an Edmonton player has won, along with Wayne Gretzky & Mark Messier. This is also the sixth consecutive year that a forward has been awarded the award.Carey Price was last goaltender to capture the Hart Trophy in 2014-15. Chris Pronger was last defenseman to do so during the 1999-2000 season.McDavid's second win will only increase the pressure on the Oilers to rebuild around McDavid after another disappointing season.Edmonton was eliminated by the Winnipeg Jets after failing to advance beyond the qualifying round within the NHL bubble last season. Since losing to the Anaheim Ducks last year, the Oilers haven't advanced to the second round in postseason.Edmonton had not made the playoffs in 10 years. The Oilers were unable to make it back to the playoffs after falling to the Jets in three years.McDavid is proving he's still the best player in the league. His front office has yet not caught up to him and provided more support.
