Zoom announced the acquisition of Kites, a company that has been working on real-time transcription and translation software. Zoom claims that the acquisition will help it communicate with people who speak other languages more easily and will be adding translation capabilities to its video conference app.Kites was founded at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. According to the site, the technology was initially developed as an in-class translation tool for students who needed assistance understanding the English and German lectures of their professors.Zoom already offers real-time transcriptions but it is limited to English speaking users. Zoom's support page also explains that the current live transcription feature might not be accurate. Zoom says it is considering opening a research centre in Germany for the Kites team.
