Marriott International, Japan's largest hotel chain, has opened this new location.The company owns 70 properties in 18 brands across 21 prefectures, including major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Kyoto. It also has other lesser-known gems such as Tochigi and Gifu. The portfolio has over 30 hotels under construction, with three more hotels opening later in the year.Rajeev Menon (President, Marriott International Asia-Pacific) stated that "Expanding our reach and bringing more brands to Japan has been an important priority for us." This marks the company's select-service category growth. Since 2019, Japan has seen nearly three times the number of open hotels. Fairfield by Marriott and Courtyard Hotels, Aloft Hotels and Moxy Hotels are all examples of the brand category. They offer a unique value to travelers, with simple services and amenities, as well as casual, convenient dining options, warm hospitality, and a price that is affordable. Aloft's new property is located in central Osaka, at the intersection of entertainment, shopping and dining. Many of Japan's select-service hotels will open in less known areas. They are expected to provide comfortable and easy stays for tourists who wish to explore the more remote, but still attractive, parts of Japan.The portfolio of 13 Fairfield by Marriott hotels located in prime locations close to roadside rest stops in Japan, is a major driver for growth in this select service category. Five Fairfield by Marriott hotels were opened in beautiful locations in 2021. These included Odai, Minamiyamashiro, Kyoto, Nikko, Tochigi and Kushimoto in Wakayama. Fairfield by Marriott Gifu Takayama Shokawa will open a new Fairfield hotel later this year. These new hotels are close to national parks, UNESCO World Heritage Sites and provide guests with a gateway to secluded locations and local gems throughout the country.Moxy Kyoto Nijo, Japan's fourth Moxy hotel, will open this summer. It is highly anticipated and it is sure to be a fun addition to Kyoto's social scene. Moxy Kyoto Nijo celebrates youthful nonconformity and open-mindedness. It is located in Kyoto Nijo, a historic district close to the World Heritage site Nijo Castle. This new location will be buzzing with activity and exploration.Hiyori Chapter Kyoto is a Tribute Portfolio hotel that was recently opened. It welcomes guests from all walks of the country to create their own stories and experience the charms of Kyoto.Remarkable Momentum for Luxury Brands in 2021 and BeyondMarriott International celebrated Japan's opening of its first W hotel earlier this year with W Osaka. This brand brought a bold approach and new possibilities to Osaka's already vibrant hospitality scene.The iconic lifestyle luxury brand EDITION will expand further with the opening of The Tokyo EDITION Ginza later in the year.
