Shopify president says small business will lead the pandemic recovery in cities

CNBC's Harley Finkelstein, Shopify President, said Tuesday that small business is emerging as a major driver of the U.S. economy rebound. He said, "What we're seeing is that entrepreneurialism is now part the global recovery story," in an interview with Jim Cramer on "Mad Money." "Small businesses will lead the charge to bring our communities and cities back to pre-pandemic levels."Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, thousands of small businesses had to suspend or close their doors permanently. Many of these businesses are still in recovery, even though the U.S. economy is recovering and the stock market continues to set record highs.Finkelstein also announced that Shopify, an online store and retail point-of sale system, will be reducing its commissions on sales made by developers. This is part of the Canadian company’s plan to increase its client base by reducing its 20% cut on the first $1,000,000 clients it collects through its marketplace.Finkelstein stated that the first $1 million of your Shopify app development is yours. "This is important because we believe that Shopify can create a real ecosystem. We want thousands, if not tens of millions of developers to build on Shopify."
