NFL cancels supplemental draft for second straight year, source confirms

ESPN has confirmed that the NFL will not hold a second consecutive supplemental draft.Players whose eligibility status has changed since the January deadline for regular draft registration can use the supplemental draft. The Arizona Cardinals selected safety Jalen Thomson in the fifth round of 2019, the year that was the most recent supplemental draft.Other notable supplemental picks include quarterback Terrelle Perry (2011) and wide receiver Josh Gordon (2012). However, there have been many years in which no picks were made.The collective bargaining agreement gives the NFL the power to decide whether or not to hold the supplemental draft every year. NFL Network reported the first time that the supplemental draft was not scheduled for 2021.The supplemental draft has been canceled for the third time since 1977. Due to a shortage of applicants, the 2008 supplemental draft was not held along with 2021 and 2020.
