Facebook launches standalone newsletter platform 'Bulletin'

Facebook's long-rumored standalone newsletter platform Bulletin has been revealed. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, announced the new project in a live audio-room. He said that it was an answer to the current state of the media ecosystem.Bulletin will offer a mix between paid and free content. While some articles will be available for free, others will be behind paywalls. Paid subscribers will have access to additional features such as Facebook Groups and badges.Facebook, like Substack's newsletter startup, is paying writers upfront for their participation. Zuckerberg stated that Facebook will not take a cut from writers' earnings, at least initially. He also indicated that they will allow them to move their subscribers and content to another platform.FacebookBulletin is unique in that it lives outside the main Facebook app, which is a departure from previous Facebook journalism initiatives. Although the newsletter platform will have its own website and branding it will also use Facebook's distribution tools. Newsletters will be integrated into author's Facebook pages. Readers can also find the content in the news section on Facebooks app. Zuckerberg stated that authors will be able to "complement" their writing with podcasts or audio rooms.
