Iceland Keeps Loosening COVID Restrictions, Just In Time For Our Trip

Sharon and I were delighted to hear that Iceland would accept fully vaccinated visitors without quarantine. We were able to choose the areas we wanted to see thanks to readers' suggestions and Andy from Andys Travel Blog. Then we booked hotels and a car rental.Iceland announced that from July 1, fully vaccinated tourists would no longer need to undergo a COVID testing upon arrival. Although we didn't worry about it, it was something we had to do upon arrival.Iceland steadily increased the number of people vaccinated as we neared our trip. At the time of writing, approximately 50% of Iceland's population was fully vaccinated. 72% of them have had at least one shot. If you only consider adults, 87% of those vaccinated have received at least one dose. Infections per 100k people have been on the rise at 5 per day over the past seven days.Iceland is doing a great job of protecting its population and has now relaxed restrictions. Social distancing, restrictions on gatherings, mask-wearing and limits on opening hours have been lifted as of June 26th.Iceland is returning to the pre-COVID era. There is no need to be 2 meters away from anyone. Restaurants and bars can be back to normal, as well as museums and other activities. This means that once we get off the plane in New York (where masks were still required), it's time to take off our masks. Do I have to remember to smile with my eyes and not just with mine to take a selfie? You want to comment on this article? That's great!
