However, Great Jones founders wanted to create cookware that was more accessible and less expensive than legacy brands such as All-Clad or Le Creuset.Sierra Tishgart (a James Beard Award winner, former New York Magazine food writer, editor and editor) and Maddy Moelis (a former product manager at Zola), founded Great Jones in 2018. They started it because twentysomethings, who are often not wealthy, don't have many options for affordable cookware.Small direct-to-consumer startups are becoming increasingly popular for millennials who may be less financially able than their parents.Over the years, we've tried many Great Jones pieces, including the Dutchess Dutch Oven stockpot, Holy Sheet baking sheet, Deep-Cut sautepan, Big Deal stockpot and Dutchess Dutch Oven. We were pleasantly surprised at the high quality and durability of the Great Jones products, despite the fact that they cost $155 per pot. For its pot handles, the brand uses a corrosion-resistant stainless steel in kitchen grade with 8% nickel. They are also TIG (ortungsten inert gases) welded. Great Jones fittings are extra strong and stable because tungsten is not melted. There are no rivets or screws used, and there are no seams that can trap bacteria or food. The handles of the pots and pans have been hand-polished with PVD (physical-vapor deposition), which gives them a rich, aged look. However, the Dutch oven handles are ceramic-coated.Great Jones also has a "potline" for cooking advice. Anyone can text 1-814-247-28448 to receive real-time advice and recipe suggestions.
