Hansi Flick, former Bayern Munich head coach, will take the reins on July 1.What is the next step? Lw was the one who led Germany to victory in Brazil's 2014 World Cup. Many will argue that this victory was won while Flick was his assistant.Flick left the DFB following the World Cup in Brazil. After a hurried semifinal defeat at Euro 2016 against France, Flick left the DFB. In 2017, Germany won the Confederations Cup. Then came a short reprieve when it was defeated by France. Finally, in 2018, Germany exited at an historic time at the FIFA World Cup.The bad luck did not stop there. Germany was relegated immediately after the World Cup. Only UEFA reforms saved Germany. After a devastating 6-0 defeat to Spain and a dreadful 2-1 loss to North Macedonia followed by this tournament. It was a remarkable feat to get out of Group F (the so-called Group of Death), at first glance. Portugal was eliminated by France and Belgium, which were defeated by Switzerland before Tuesday's kickoff. Both teams hyped up, which was a bad sign for the German team. That fateful night at Wembley was the next. This was the venue that saw Germany win Euro 1996 and historic defeat to Germany in 1966.Both teams were able to offer very little for the first 45 minutes. Harry Kane and Timo Werner both missed sitters, which gave their sides the win. Jordan Pickford was then required to make a superb stop to prevent Kai Havertz from scoring outside the box.The game remained deadlocked as neither side could find a breakthrough. As a Germany supporter, one felt that England was in the losing end. Lw actually played into Gareth Southgate’s hands.Southgate chose stability over attack and benched Jadon Sancho as well as Jack Grealish. In the second period, the latter arrived just in time for England to win.Harry Kane celebrates his goal at Wembley against Germany (Photo by Eddie Keogh/The FA/The FA via... [+] Getty Images). The FA via Getty ImagesHarry Kane first spotted Raheem sterling's run in 75 minutes. The City winger tapped the ball past Neuer to take the lead. Luke Shaw then found Kane in his box in the 86th minute to end the game. Thomas Mller had the opportunity to score on the breakaway, but the Bayern forward failed to score. We were very disappointed. We hoped for more, and the belief in the team was absolutely there," Lw stated after the game to ARD. "In a game such as this, it's about taking chances and we didnt accept our big 2 from Thomas Mller and Timo Werner."This is true. The game was balanced well and could have ended in either direction. However, one can sense that Germany should have easily advanced with the available players.Lw spoke out about his coaching mistakes. "Coaches make their decisions based on the information they have at the moment and what they learn in training." These decisions didn't work out well enough in the previous three tournaments, and they led to disaster in two of them.GoalImpact, the stats company, had Germany as their favorite to win the tournament based on the available players. This was not the first time that coaching cost the team the title. This was true in 2016, 2018, and 2021.This is the feeling that characterized this golden age in Germany's talent. Even though Germany has won two of the three U21 Euros, Flick will ensure that the players succeed and get more from a group than two finals in six tournaments.Manuel Veth is editor-in-chief for the Futbolgrad Network as well as the Area Manager USA at Transfermarkt.
