Paul MorigiWashington Football Team owner Dan Snyder has announced Tuesday that his wife Tanya Snyder was named co-CEO of the team.Andrew Beaton, Wall Street Journal's first reporter, reported the news. Snyder gave a statement to Nicki Jabala, Washington Post's correspondent, about the decision. He said, "Tanya was always my closest confidant. She has been my most important advisor." "The valuable perspective she brings to the organization is priceless and I am extremely proud to give her the title of CEO."This is the latest step in WFT’s organizational restructuring. A pair of Washington Post articles in July and August last year detailed how sexual harassment and sexist standards had overrun the franchise under Snyder's ownership.Former employee Emily Applegate said that it was the worst experience in her life and she left the team after one year. "And we all tolerated because we knew that if we complained, they would remind us that there were 1,000 people who would take our jobs in a heartbeat.Snyder issued a statement after the initial report. She stated that Beth Wilkinson, an attorney for the franchise, had been retained to conduct an independent review."The behavior described yesterday in the Washington Post article is not appropriate for our franchise. This story has reinforced my resolve to set a new culture for our team. It all started with the hiring Coach Ron Rivera earlier in the year."Beth Wilkinson's firm is empowered to conduct a thorough, impartial investigation and make all necessary recommendations. We will implement new policies and procedures, strengthen our human resource infrastructure and create a respectful and inclusive team culture after her work is complete. The Richmond Times-Dispatch's Michael Phillips stated that her report was not finalized and released due to a continuing court case in which it is being determined whether details of a 2009 settlement for sexual harassment, in the context of which a former female employee was compensated $1.6 million, should either be made public or kept confidential. After the initial Washington Post report, Tanya Snyder was named in an internal memo sent to employees.Beaton spoke with Dan Snyder, who said that he regrets that he and his franchise weren't being more open to the possibility of misconduct and that it was "heartbreaking."Snyder said, "We are deeply sorry."As part of organizational changes, Jason Wright has been appointed team president for Washington Football Team, Martin Mayhew as general manger, and Julie Donaldson is senior vice president of media.Tanya Snyder stated to Beaton that we need to get involved. We need to examine the past and close the door so that we can do things differently.NFL owners approved in March the purchase by the Snyders of the remaining 40.5 per cent of shares from minority owners. This gave the Snyders complete control over the team.Washington Football Team is still in the process to change its name after it was removed from its old nickname. This nickname was derogatory towards Native Americans and was used prior to the 2020 season.
