After Andy Butchart claimed he had feigned a negative COVID-19 to get back to Britain after an international race, the UK Athletics Association (UKA), and British Olympic Association began an investigation. After the 29-year old revealed that he had faked a negative test result in a podcast, the investigation was initiated. He said that a COVID test is required to enter the UK."So, you need to quickly, like get an old PCR testing, go on Instagram, f---ing scribble the time, the date and change them so you can get in the country."Later, the British Olympian would retract his statements to the Times. He said: "I never falsified it, the test passed in time. But I have heard rumours that others are faking tests."ESPN was informed by a spokesperson for the UKA that they were aware of comments made today in a podcast hosted by an athlete."Elite sport was able to be exempted from many guidelines during the pandemic to allow athletes to continue training and competing."We take seriously any suggestion that an athlete may not have followed these guidelines properly or broken any COVID-related protocols."This selection will be subject to further investigation from UK Athletics. Until this investigation is complete, no further comments will be made."Butchart was previously in trouble for criticizing Joanna Coates, the chief executive at UKA, and an athlete coach via social media. His inclusion in the Team GB squad to compete at Tokyo Games prompted this investigation.
