Sony announced the acquisition of Housemarque, a Finnish developer of PlayStation hits like Resogun, Alienation and, most recently, Returnal. They had been in close contact for more than a decade. Most of Housemarques' recent games were exclusively released for PlayStation consoles or handhelds. Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, stated that the recent Housemarques release of Returnal shows the studio's vision and ability to create memorable games that resonate with the community. This new addition to PlayStation Studios enhances the creativity of Housemarque.Since 1995, when Bloodhouse and Terramarque combined to create Housemarque, the studio has existed. The team has been creating arcade shooters that are fast and exciting since 1995. Housemarque was first popularized by Super Stardust HD on the PS3 which featured PlayStation trophies.Returnal was a significant departure for the studio as it represented the first over-the shoulder shooter in their portfolio. Returnal is a key part of the company's DNA and roots, even though it is not an arcade shooter. It is possible that Returnal will be remade by Sony, now that it has Sony backing them. Perhaps something completely new. This news may actually hint at future acquisitions. Nibel on Twitter noticed that Sony Japan had uploaded an image welcoming the team, but it was actually for Bluepoint Studios and not Housemarque. So apparently PlayStation Japan accidentally uploaded an incorrect image to their first tweet about Housemarque's acquisition pic.twitter.com/yQBHtLbG5c Nibel, (@Nibellion), June 29, 2021Bluepoint is another team that has been working closely with Sony over many years. It would be logical for this to be the next major acquisition. It could be an error. We'll just have to wait and watch. Sony and Housemarque are to be congratulated for their new partnership.Recommendations of Editors
