Jet2 boss 'disappointed' by Turkey red list decision

According to the boss of Britain's second-largest tour operator, the decision to keep Turkey off the red list in the most recent review was a huge disappointment.Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2holidays, cautiously accepted last week's green list additions. However, he stated that the data indicated that Turkey should have moved towards amber. You can see that the data is improving. The infection rates are decreasing, and the vaccination rates are increasing, he said to a Travel Weekly webcast. It deserves to be on the amber-list.Jet2 hopes to resume flights to Turkey on July 22, and is in talks with the Turkish government. It is not as easy to start an airline business by just getting in your car and pressing the button again. We would all be happier if we understood the criteria used by the [UK] government and the parameters they consider.Jet2holidays offers green-list destinations starting July 1.Jet2 resumes operations with Jersey ServicesJet2holidays pushes back the restart date to July 1.Heapy also criticised the government's decision to allow VIP fans and officials to visit England during the final matches at Euro 2020, without being quarantined.Last week, the decision was made to make sure that the games are played at Wembley, London, rather than in Hungary which has less restrictions on arrivals. He said that he was a big football fan, echoing many of the concerns expressed by travel professionals during last week's Travel Day of Action. I would love to see football in the UK. I'm happy to give up that dream at the moment. It is insane. It is also utterly unjust and disrespectful to the thousands of people who have made great sacrifices. You are a sole trader travel agent who is on the edge. Your income is very low, you have no job, so the income you get now can't be used until the customer travels. He expressed disappointment at the decision, particularly considering that he had several thousand colleagues who have been waiting patiently for furlough for months.Heapy stated that after Grant Shapps' confirmation that travellers from countries on the amber list will not be quarantined from later in summer, there was no reason for this policy to not be implemented soon. The government has allowed several thousand Uefa officers into the country without any form quarantine. We don't know where they have been. We are still subject to these severe restrictions.Travel is not a second-class business. Be bold if the vaccine works and 62% have received both vaccines.
