A day in the life of Google's New Zealand country director, a single mother who oversees more than 1,800 employees and flies to Australia once a month

Caroline Rainsford (39), is Google's country manager for New Zealand. She supervises approximately 50 people in Auckland.Rainsford has been with Google for almost four years. Rainsford was just three months into her maternity leaves for her second child.After a five month interview process, Google offered the job to her and asked her how long she planned to be on maternity leave. In New Zealand, parents have a year of maternity leave, six months of which are paid.The recruiter team was informed that she had planned to take the entire year. However, she said she would be happy to end it earlier if she needed.Rainsford stated, "And they said: 'No. We're happy to sit and wait for you.'" "And so I began in this company with the best experience. Being a mother was always my first priority. As a leader, my goal is to ensure that every mother has the opportunity to experience that experience if she wants to be a working mom.
