Coastguard seizes half a tonne of cocaine floating off Algeria coast

After fishers reported suspicious items being floating off the coast of Algeria, authorities in Algeria seized nearly half a ton of cocaine.A defence ministry statement stated that the coastguard pulled out 490kg (1.080 pounds) cocaine from the sea six nautical miles (11 kilometers) offshore Orans Cap Carbon Saturday evening.A thorough investigation is underway.This is the biggest cocaine seizure in North Africa since 700kg of cocaine was found on a boat that transported meat from Brazil in 2018.Friday's announcement by the country's anti-drug agency stated that 25 tonnes of cannabis resin were seized within the first four months.
