Psaki says Biden won't visit Miami-area building collapse and supports an investigation

This would cause local resources to be diverted from ongoing rescue efforts."We want to make sure that we are not relying on local resources. Psaki stated that they don't want resources to be used in ongoing rescue and search operations. "We will continue to keep in close contact with the officials on ground."The White House provided federal assistance to state and local officials to respond to the partial collapse of a Surfside residential building (12 stories) last Thursday, just outside of Miami.Psaki stated that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the US Army Corps of Engineers had deployed teams to help with debris removal, incident management, and search and rescue operations. She said that FEMA coordinates with local and state officials to establish a family assistance center, as well as provide support for communications.Psaki stated that FEMA Administrator Deanne Kriswell was in the state to meet with Gov. Ron DeSantis briefed Biden about the situation. On Sunday, the president stated that hearing the update was "excruciating" and that his administration was ready to offer any relief.Biden stated that it was an unbearably difficult time for families who have to deal with this tragedy. The uncertainty adds to the heartbreaking burden of those who wait in pain for news of loved ones, as rescue efforts continue after this tragic incident.
