If the deal is renegotiated, the U.S. will lift many sanctions against Iran and end many of its nuclear activities.Trump pulled the U.S. from the nuclear agreement in 2018, one of Obama's most significant foreign policy achievements. It took over two years to negotiate the deal that seven countries agreed to in 2015.After the U.S. withdrawal from the agreement, Iran initially remained in it. It agreed to keep its nuclear power limits tightened for a decade in exchange for lifting sanctions that had hurt its economy. After Maj. Gen. Qasem Solimani, an Iranian military leader, was killed in an airstrike ordered by Trump, Iran ended the agreement. He will also meet with Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker, and other congressional leaders before Biden leaves office in July. This vote evicted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had led Israel for 12 years. This vote ended a two year cycle that saw four elections in Israel. The votes were focused on Netanyahu's ability to continue as prime minister despite his corruption allegations. It is a patchwork made up eight parties that have deep ideological divisions. If any members decide to leave, it could fall apart. Bennett's party has six seats in Parliament, out of 120.Yair Lapid (the main force behind the coalition), agreed to Bennett's suggestion that he would take over as prime minster in two years if there is still a government.Biden quickly congratulated the new government, and expressed his delight at the prospect of working with Bennett. Biden stated that the administration is committed to working alongside the new government in order to improve security, stability and peace for Israelis and Palestinians as well as people throughout the region. This report was contributed by Myah Ward.
