Samsung's latest smartwatch interface, One UI Watch, was showcased today at the MWC. The new Wear OS, developed by Samsung and Google, will run this software. Those who are closely following Samsung will recall that One UI is an existing version for watches. It's designed to improve the coherence between watches and phones. The latest One UI for Wear OS appears to be trying to achieve that, based on what we saw. The company stated that "One UI Watch will be combined with the new unified platform to create an entirely new Galaxy Watch experience."Google shared with Samsung how it had learned from Samsung how to improve certain processes and increase battery life. There were also some improvements in navigation such as a double-click of a button to switch between apps. We are still waiting to see the full update.Samsung provided some additional details today about how it will work. You can download compatible apps to your smartwatch by installing them on your phone. Your phone's settings will be transferred to your wrist. The various clocks you have selected for different cities will appear, and the numbers you've blocked won't. It also works in reverse. If you block someone from your Galaxy phone, they will also be blacklisted. The new UI will "closely mirror" the settings menu on your phone, according to a video.SamsungTizen had a few flaws. Third-party apps were not supported. With the new Wear OS, you have a whole new set of titles to choose from. One UI Watch will have the Google Play Store, so that you can download apps from your watch. This includes apps such as Couch25K and Facer as well as Calm, Adidas, GolfBuddy and Calm. Both Samsung and Google also announced a new watch face design tool that will allow Android developers to create more useful options for their users. This is not a comprehensive look at One UI Watch or Wear OS, but it does give us a better idea about what to expect. We will have to wait until the software is available to the public or when the devices are shipped with it to fully experience it. This will allow us to see how it feels and if it delivers the performance benefits both companies promised.
