He also thanked them for winning a title in 2019-20.Kidd, 48 brings both experience as a Hall of Fame pointguard and as a head coach. After leading the Brooklyn Nets to victory in 2013, Kidd was able to coach them to the playoffs. The Bucks were a 139-152 team that made it to the playoffs, and Kidd was their coach. After Kidd was fired midway through 2017-18, Milwaukee has been a perennial contender for the Eastern Conference title under Mike Budenholzer. The Mavericks hope Kidd, who won a title in Dallas as a player for Dirk Nowitzki, can maximize the career of Luka Doncic. Harrison's ability build a contender around the 2018-19 Rookie-of-the Year will be a key factor in his success.Although Harrison is not a well-known name outside of the NBA, Tim Cato from The Athletic pointed out that Harrison "has certain experiences that easily transfer into the general manager role to be which he has been hired: his ability to build and maintain player relationships, his history with contract negotiations, his reputation within the league, and his connection to Doncic."Doncic is Jordan Brand's most famous athlete, which is why he is familiar with Harrison.Harrison can put another star (or more) around Doncic. To date, the Kristaps Porzingis-Doncic pairing hasn't been very fruitful. Doncic will likely sign a Supermax contract extension with Mavs, but Dallas will be focusing on the next contract. Will Doncic stay if the Mavericks fail to create a consistent title contender around Doncic? Kidd and Harrison will be the main job in making sure Doncic has a reason.
