Kansas City police ID victim in Sunday shooting, investigate as apparent murder-suicide

Kansas City police have identified the woman that detectives believe was murdered Sunday night in an apparent murder-suicide.According to the Kansas City Police Department, Evonne Cruz (43 years old) is believed to be fatally shot by Antonio Arbelo (54 years), who apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot injury.Officers responded to a shooting in Prospect Avenue at 9:30 p.m. Cruz was found with gunshot wounds in a car that had crashed. Police said Cruz was the victim.Officers were also called to another shooting at a nearby house in the 2600 block East 9th Street. They found Arbelo, according to Sgt. Jake Becchina was a spokesperson for the police.Becchina stated that police initially believed Cruz had been shot in the vicinity of the same house. Investigators believe she drove away from the house before colliding with a car a few miles away.Police said Cruz was taken to the hospital and later died.According to The Star data, her death marked the 75th homicide in Kansas City this year.
