Barr describes his break with Trump and 'bulls***' claims of election fraud

In new interviews published Sunday by the Atlantic, William Barr, former Attorney General dismissed allegations of election fraud against President Donald Trump as bulls***.My attitude was, "It was put-up-or-shut-up time," Barr recalled at one stage. I didn't have any motive to suppress evidence of fraud. My suspicion was that there wasn't any. It was all bulls***.This comment was part in multiple interviews Barr did with Jonathan Karl from ABC News this spring. Karl wrote the Atlantic article about Barr's split with Trump after the 2020 election.Trump lost the election to Vice President Biden. However, he tried to overthrow the will to the voters with a mixture of conspiracy theories and outright lies claiming that he had won key states. Trump clearly hoped that Barr's Justice Department would assist him in this endeavor. Barr was widely viewed as a Trump loyalist and the attorney general has been widely criticized for his implementation of the Mueller Report.Instead, Barr publicly rebutted Trump's false claims of voter fraud. Barr explained to the Atlantic that the idea that voting machines could change votes was a bulls*** claim.Barr claimed that Mitch McConnell, then-Majority Leader, had encouraged him to speak out on the subject of the election in the Atlantic. McConnell told Barr, "Bill, I look around and you're the only one who can do it."Barr's comments to the AP were apparently a source of anger for Trump.How the f*** can you do that to me? Trump tweeted that our relationship was very positive and that he has done an excellent job. According to his letter, Bill will be departing just before Christmas to spend time with his family.Trump made a long statement Sunday night in which he denounced Barr's comments in The Atlantic.
