Miami-Dade mayor: We dearly hope collapse was 'an anomaly'

Chuck Todd from NBC's Meet the Press told her that buildings had been constructed and inspected to a certain code since 1992 when Hurricane Andrew struck the region. The 13-story Champlain Towers South collapsed at 1:30 am on Thursday. It was constructed in 1981.Levine Cava stated that once more information is available, we will look into what other options we have, beyond the re-inspection of buildings older than 40 years.We're currently reviewing the 40 plus cases. This, to our knowledge, is an anomaly. However, the investigation will continue, she said. We are still very focused on rescue and search.Levine Cava stated that the area is ready for hurricane season.The emergency operation center is available. She said that the disaster has activated it. It is under control. We'll handle whatever comes our way.Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), stated Sunday on CBS News' Face the Nation, that he is certain we will find out why this happened and make necessary changes to building codes to prevent it happening again.He said that 99 percent of the attention is currently on finding survivors and giving closure to these families on this horrible tragedy.
