He talked about how movies are the best way to connect with people. Vin Diesel pulled it off. Vin Diesel saved the movies.Although it might seem premature to state this, F9 opened to $70 million last weekend according to Variety. This is more than any movie since the pandemic that shut down theaters last year. Sorry, it's not true. It actually opened higher than any other movie in the last year, even before the pandemic. It opened better than Sonic The Hedgehog. It opened higher than Bad Boys For Life. You'll have to look back at Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker if you want to see a movie that opened better than F9, which is a terrible movie. Diesel will be happy that F9 opened higher in 2019 than Hobbs & Shaw, which is not surprising considering the movie was about a candy-ass.AdvertisementDiesel spoke with Variety at a Charlize Therons Africa Outreach Project event. Diesel stated that F9's opening was the best thing. (He probably meant Warner Bros. since Groot loves working with Disney ). He also said that Universal is bold enough to support theaters over all else. Theron was also present and said that F9 is the perfect movie to help us return to the cinemas. Although we don't know where F9 will land financially, it will be interesting for Universal to consider releasing two more movies.
