Denis Villeneuve's Dune was one of the 2020 big movies that had its release date delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. Variety reports that Dunes' release date was moved from October 1st to October 22nd. Warner Bros. had to reschedule several releases, including Clint Eastwood's Cry Macho, which was moved to September 17th, as well as The Many Saints of Newark (prequel to The Sopranos), which was moved to October 1st.An all-star cast includes Timothe Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson as well as Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skrd, Zendaya and Jason Momoa. Javier Bardem is Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista and Dave Bautista in the adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 sci-fi classic. Dune is the first of two movies that will be based on the book. At this time, the movie will only cover the first half of the novel. A second movie, yet unnamed, is expected to cover the remainder. A prequel HBO Max series was also in development.Dune is one of the new Warner Bros. movies that will debut on HBO Max simultaneously with the movie's theatrical release. Many in the industry didn't like Warner Bros.' controversial December announcement. Villenueve blasted Warner Bros.'s parent company AT&T in December, claiming that AT&T had taken over one of the most important and respected studios in history. He also wrote a Variety editorial stating that AT&T would merge its WarnerMedia business with Discovery.Dune will still be shown at the Venice International Film Festival's world premiere in September.
