Delta Air Lines just released its latest safety video in flight and it is clear that the airline believes that passengers will have to wear masks onboard planes in the future. This video features Delta pilots as well as flight attendants. The video also contains reminder messages and face mask reminders.Face masks are a stark contrast to other airlines who have just released new inflight safety videos that do not mention COVID-19.Air Canada's new safety video was launched last week. It featured Canadians at iconic locations across Canada without the need for a face mask insight, despite the fact that Canada has just emerged from the longest Coronavirus lockdown in the world. If a group Republican senators has their way, Delta's new video could age very quickly. Roger Wicker and Ted Cruz are urging the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to immediately remove mask requirements for public transport and commercial flights. The United States has over 150 million residents who have been fully vaccinated. Mask mandates across the country have been lifted. Cruz claimed that the CDC has not lifted the public transportation mask mandate. It is long past due for President Biden to get on board with the science. They believe that vaccinating more Americans would be easier if the federal mask mandate was lifted early. Our World in Data reports that 54% of Americans have had at least one dose (or more) of the COVID-19 vaccine. However, there is a lot of supply and the United States is trailing other countries in terms of its vaccination campaign. The federal mandate for face masks expires on September 13, but the Delta variant presents a serious risk to the U.S., if the level is not rising again. There may be a need for an extension of the mandate. The Delta variant poses a serious risk. On Friday, the World Health Organization advised that all fully vaccinated persons should continue to wear facemasks. This is contrary to CDC guidance which states that facemasks are not required in most settings.Let's hope that Delta (the airline) records two versions of the new video without using face masks if all goes well.H/T: One Mile at A Time
