Arizona secretary of state one of Maricopa audit's biggest winners, local strategists say

Strategists in Arizona agree that Katie Hobbs, Democratic Secretary of State, is one of the main beneficiaries of the GOP-led Arizona Senate’s 2020 election audit in Maricopa County.Hobbs, who was not a household name prior to the November election became a national celebrity by raising awareness about the recent audit and warning that democracy is at risk. She announced her intention to run for governor in 2022 at the start of June.Chuck Coughlin is the president and CEO at HighGround Inc. in Arizona, and she told the Washington Examiner that the audit will put her on the evening news. Arizona State University awarded her a master's in social work. Hobbs was criticized for tweets claiming that former President Donald Trump was on his side with the Nazis and that he had a neo Nazi base.Republicans in the state have made Hobbs look bad. Her campaign was announced one week later. In the first two days of her entry, Hobbs raised $200,000. Hobbs's team claims that 80% of the donations were from Arizonans. However, Hobbs's team says that 13,000 individual contributors contributed more than 80%.Arizona was won by Biden by more than 10,000 votes from more than 3.3million across the state. He was able to win Arizona by about 2 percentage points due to his advantage in Maricopa County. This includes Phoenix where the Democrat received nearly 45,000 more votes that Trump. The county saw approximately 2.1 million votes.Karen Fann (Republican State Senate President) is leading the review. She said that the audit is not intended to reverse the results of the 2020 election but to restore trust and influence changes to voting laws. The audit attracted GOP lawmakers from across the country who are eager to curry favor to Trump. They insist that the November election was stolen through fraud and press for copycat audits.After dozens of lawsuits were dismissed by courts, state and federal officials supported the integrity of the 2020 elections. This included the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency under Trump which issued a November statement stating that the election was "the most secure in American History."The Maricopa County audit report, which includes a hand count and inspection of ballots, is expected to be published in the summer.Stan Barnes, a Republican strategist from Arizona, stated to the Washington Examiner that the Maricopa County audit serves both parties' purposes and that they are both happy about it.He said that Democrats are delighted about it, believing it is a joke and that they can use it to win votes they wouldn't normally get in the general elections, 2022.
