Singapore Airlines Awards Temporarily Not Available Using Partners

Singapore Airlines awards are one of the most sought after using miles from Star Alliance and other partner programs such as Alaska's Mileage Plan.

I tend to use my Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles for awards on their own metal due to better availability and waitlisting functionality, which is not available using partners. It appears that Singapore Airlines has now closed off all award availability from third parties.

Singapore Airlines award availability: Singapore Airlines has removed access to award travel due to the complexities of enforcing global travel restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic. We anticipate that access will be restored beginning September 1, 2020.

I am sure that there are many Singapore Airlines flights loaded into the system that won't take place - case with most airlines.

Although it is the responsibility of partner airlines who issues the ticket to fix them in case of flight cancellations, Singapore Airlines likely will avoid the headache by cutting third party access temporarily altogether.

It makes sense in this environment to issue and book award tickets because they can usually be freely or inexpensively canceled. Also, you don't later have to fight with the airlines to get your cash refunded like has been the case with many when it comes to canceled revenue tickets.
