Bread for the World, a non-partisan Christian charity focused on ending world hunger, said in a statement it asked for Yoho's resignation to reaffirm its "commitment to coming alongside women and people of color, nationally and globally, as they continue to lead us to a more racially inclusive and equitable world."
The charity said it was "deeply concerned" about Yoho's "verbal attack," adding that his behavior "does not reflect the values of respect and compassion that Jesus calls on us to exhibit every day."
A reporter from the Hill overheard Yoho call Ocasio-Cortez a "fucking bitch" on Tuesday as she walked away from a conversation about the rise in violence in New York City.
During the encounter, Yoho also reportedly called her "disgusting" for suggesting a rise in unemployment and poverty from the coronavirus pandemic was linked to the recent crime surge.
On Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez rebuked Yoho in a now-viral speech on the House floor where she talked about the broader issue of harassment and abusive language toward women, saying it "was not just an incident directed at me, but when you do that to any woman, what Mr. Yoho did was give permission to other men to do that to his daughters"
