Fremont Street Experience Walking Tour July 2020

Downtown Las Vegas is always in a state of flux. Before they built the Fremont Street Experience canopy things were really rough, but that project brought more tourists to Downtown. The problem then was the casinos were rundown too, but eventually they all got a facelift.

Beyond the Fremont Street Experience Downtown Las Vegas has seen modernization too. Zappos moved their headquarters into the old Las Vegas City Hall and a company lead by the Zappos founder has bought and refurbished tons of buildings in and around the Fremont Street District.

And now Downtown Las Vegas is progressing again with a recent $32 million upgrade (it makes a huge difference) to the Viva Vision light show on the canopy plus its first new resort in 40 years. Circa Las Vegas is coming with an adults only atmosphere and a pool area that impresses. (Check out our video construction tour of Circa.)

An Uncertain Future & A Very Empty Present

But there is still uncertainty in Downtown Las Vegas. Circa brings 777 additional ( and expensive) rooms to Downtown Las Vegas which no doubt will have some effect on other competing casinos. Plus, it's pretty slow right now. Weekends can get rowdy and some nights are busy, but overall occupancy is low and from my observations the casinos are largely empty.

I personally feel Downtown is much more vulnerable compared to the Strip. Fremont definitely has it loyalists, but for most tourists I think Downtown is a place they visit rather than a place they stay. As Vegas struggles to attract people to come back, I wonder how fast the rooms on Fremont Street will fill up.

Fremont Street Experience - What's Vegas Like Right Now?

Yesterday I headed down to Fremont Street to film a little and I was surprised to see just how dead it was. Yes it was during the day on a Thursday, but it's Summer and it would normally be much busier. But don't take my word for it. Take a look for yourself! My full walking tour of Fremont Street is below and I even venture off of Fremont for a bit to show some cool areas people may not know about.

Fremont Street Experience Walking Tour July 2020 - Bottom Line

Make sure to check out our YouTube Channel where I have posted a number of Vegas tour videos already. I also filmed a ton yesterday and those videos will be getting released on YouTube over the next few days! From night time on the Strip to all of the closed Vegas casinos, I think some of our upcoming videos are interesting, fun and a little sad too.
