The Golden State Warriors' season may be over, but they have reportedly received good news about Klay Thompson's recovery from the torn ACL he suffered during the 2019 NBA Finals.
Per The Athletic's Anthony Slater, Thompson has been "training without restriction" after receiving "final medical clearance a couple weeks back."
Slater noted that Thompson went through a "high-octane" workout Thursday.
Thompson hasn't appeared in a game since tearing his ACL while going up for a dunk in the third quarter of Golden State's 114-110 loss to the Toronto Raptors in Game 6 of last year's NBA Finals.
There was speculation last offseason that Thompson would be able to return at some point in 2019-20, but Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told NBC Sports Bay Area's Logan Murdock in October the five-time All-Star was "unlikely" to play this season.
The Warriors officially announced in February that Thompson wouldn't return until next season.
Slater did note Thompson won't be ready to play in games until he is able to meet "many conditioning checkpoints."
The NBA is preparing to resume play next month with 22 teams set to complete the regular season with eight games before going into the postseason, but the Warriors have turned their attention to 2020-21.
Golden State was already eliminated from playoff contention when play was suspended March 11 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Its 15-50 record is the worst in the NBA.
