I'm not an industry leader (yet!), so I can only speak to what I've seen. The industry leaders I've come to know are so very different from one another that it's difficult to nail down what they have in common. So, on some level, the thing they share is authenticity. They at least appear to know who they are and what their personal style is, and they let that drive their leadership. I'm sure that this comes naturally to some folks, but I know that others work very hard to find peace in their own skin. This self-knowledge allows them to lean into their strengths, while being able to acknowledge and mitigate their weaknesses.

The leaders I most admire are the ones that recognize and develop ability in others, and find ways to empower them. It's the only way to exceed one's own limitations as an individual.

The second aspect I admire most is perhaps a package of traits that I'll bundle and call integrity. It's a combination of humility, transparency, responsiveness, and follow-through. Leaders that practice integrity set the tone for a highly functioning team.

Lastly, I admire decisiveness. There has to be an ability to choose a direction, align everyone, and move forward. The chosen direction won't always be right, but there's no chance of success if action isn't taken and people aren't aligned. As a corollary, decisiveness is is also required when determining that things aren't panning out and it's time to realign.

As I grow in my career, these are some of the behaviors I'm trying to incorporate into my own leadership style.
