Japan's ANA All Nippon Airways Has Eliminated Their Fuel Surcharges For Revenue & Award Tickets

ANA All Nippon Airways has been a long time favorite to travel to/from Japan and there are good news as the carrier has just eliminated all fuel surcharges for ANA operated flights.

ANA revises their fuel surcharges frequently and for now it says these rates are valid until the end of July, however this is just to keep their options open and I doubt any big changes will happen anytime soon.

It has been really popular to book award tickets for ANA All Nippon Airways with either their own program ANA Mileage Club or partners such as Virgin Atlantic Flying Club (whatever will become of that program in the future).

I was surprised when pricing out an award and it suddenly seemed to be much cheaper than before, sure enough ANA has updated the fuel surcharge information on their website.

The fuel surcharge may be increased, decreased, or abolished depending on the market price of fuel.

There are plenty of loyalty programs that don't levy a fuel surcharge at all when redeeming miles such as Avianca LifeMiles and also United Mileage Plus but the issue was that most others including ANA itself but also Air Canada Aeroplan, Lufthansa Miles&More and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club would in fact charge the extra.

The fuel surcharges have been relatively reasonable and not outrageous such as the ones British Airways, Lufthansa and also Virgin charge for their own flights.

Now all of these charges have been eliminated until at least July 31, 2020:

This should now apply to all programs so award surcharge pricing will be minimal.

Flights operated by ANA are often some of the best bargains out there especially when issuing the tickets through ANA Mileage Club and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. The only downside is that both of these programs are now firm on only allowing round trip flights.

Revenue fares will also no longer be subject to the fuel surcharges (YQ) so it saves some extra money as soon as we can go back to purchasing tickets and Japan among other countries will open up again.
