Qatar Airways has just confirmed the status match applications for those members who participated in their rare status match campaign that was available last month (May 2020).

The match is valid for exactly one year from now and Qatar Airways has also placed the QCredits which are good for upgrades into the account (40 for Gold, 60 for Platinum).

It took them a little to process these applications but not too long after all, especially as there was some confusion about the membership materials that had to be sent it such as a picture of the membership card which many airlines don't issue anymore or an account statement with the members name on it.

You can read more about the status match promotion in our initial article here.

Here are the programs that Qatar matched from:

  • Emirates
  • t
  • Etihad
  • t
  • Singapore Airlines
  • t
  • South African Airways
  • t
  • Turkish Airlines

The status is reflected in the account:

The email also included an electronic version of the membership card.

I didn't expect that Qatar Airways would also give the QCredits which can be used for upgrades, excess baggage fees, award fees and lounge access. They are transferable to other travelers as well.

The 40 Qcredits can be used for a one sector upgrade between Bangkok to Doha for example. For Platinum members 60 credits are awarded which can be used for a double sector to Europe.

Conclusion

This was an easy match and the additional Qcredits definitely made it worthwhile to participate even if you don't have an actual, immediate use for the status.

It's rare that Qatar Airways offers a status match at all so who knows if it will come back. If you wish to build up Oneworld status with an airline other than Qatar, you can always use the Privilege Club status for benefits while crediting the flights elsewhere.
