Following rumors, it's been confirmed that Taika Waititi will direct a new feature film. The news was announced earlier today on StarWars.com, as we learned that Waititi will also be co-writing the picture.

Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns ( 1917, Last Night in Soho) has been tapped to co-write the screenplay alongside Waititi, who recently won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit. He also directed the season finale of Disney+'s Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.

StarWars.com also revealed that Emmy-nominated writer Leslye Headland ( Russian Doll, Bachelorette) is spearheading a new Star Wars series for Disney+. She will serve as showrunner, while simultaneously writing and executive producing.

Disney+ continues to bolster its roster of Star Wars-related content, as season two of hit show The Mandalorian is currently in post-production. In addition to the Leslye Headland-helmed series, the streaming platform has two other previously-announced Star Wars programs on the way.
