I'm starting to want to plan travel, even if it's not clear when I'll be able to travel abroad. I'm really hungry for sushi in Tokyo, laksa in Singapore, and prawn mee soup in Malaysia. I want a Asia trip, and there's great business class award availability to Asia for January - March, 2021 right now. It's available for four passengers, and far enough out that I'm willing to make some bookings.

Spencer Howard runs a free email newsletter where he sends out award availability alerts. This evening he found business class awards for four people wide open on Japan Airlines from several cities and two first class seats out of Chicago O'Hare. You can claim these awards with miles from American, Alaska, British Airways and more.

For business class there's availability to Tokyo from New York JFK, Chicago O'Hare, Dallas Fort-Worth, and Los Angeles. Here's New York JFK - Tokyo Haneda for four business class passengers in January:

You can use these flights to connect onward in Asia, or to visit Tokyo. Two years I had some of the best sushi on the planet during a visit to Tokyo, not to mention one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. Go for the early start of Cherry Blossoms too.

American AAdvantage charges 60,000 miles each way in business class between the U.S. and Japan, or more if you want to fly elsewhere. Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan can access these seats as well (and so can British Airways and Cathay Pacific which partner with multiple transferable currencies and fuel surcharges aren't significant).
